A 28-year-old woman, identified as T. Islar, has been arrested after her two children, a 6-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl, were found dead in a hot car. Authorities charged her with two counts of injury to a child resulting in serious bodily injury or death. Investigators say her account of events raises troubling questions.
On Saturday afternoon, deputies responded around 3:00 p.m. to a call about two children found unresponsive in a hot car. When officers arrived, the children had already been brought inside the home. A deputy immediately began CPR on both until emergency medical services arrived, but despite every effort, the children were pronounced dead at the scene.
Islar told deputies she last saw the children at 10 a.m. before going to bed and didn’t see them again until discovering them in the vehicle that afternoon. She said she then carried them into the house and tried to revive them.
Sheriff J. Salazar, however, expressed doubts about her version of events. “Something is not adding up about this case,” he said, pointing to inconsistencies in her statements. Investigators are now asking neighbors to review video footage between 1:00 and 3:30 p.m. that may clarify what happened during that critical window.
Records show that Child Protective Services had previously responded to at least one call at the home, raising earlier concerns about the family.
Deputies and EMS attempted life-saving measures, performing CPR on both children simultaneously, but neither survived. The county medical examiner has not yet released an official cause of death.
Authorities continue to investigate whether the hot-car story reflects the true circumstances. Sheriff’s officials say they are comparing Islar’s statements with evidence gathered from the scene.
Islar, who has been cooperative during questioning, remains in custody on a $300,000 bond.
The charges—two counts of injury to a child resulting in serious bodily injury or death—carry severe penalties under Texas law. Investigators are still working to piece together a timeline: how long the children were left in the vehicle, what led to them being unattended, and whether the mother’s account will withstand legal scrutiny.
For now, the case remains open as authorities seek more evidence from the community. What is certain is that two young lives were tragically lost, and prosecutors are preparing to move forward with the case.
