Texas man gets nearly 20 years for meth trafficking

U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons announced that Joe Corona, 34, received a 235-month prison sentence for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Court records show Corona sold nearly a pound of pure meth for $2,850 in March 2021. A month later, federal agents and Frio County deputies searched his home, seizing more meth, drug paraphernalia, and a loaded revolver.

Investigators determined Corona regularly transported meth from Mexico, getting $1,500 for each run.

He pleaded guilty to a superseding indictment in May and was sentenced on Aug. 13 by U.S. District Judge Jason K. Pulliam.

The Drug Enforcement Administration, the Frio County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety led the investigation.
