Texas Man Charged with Murder After Allegedly Setting Roommate on Fire While Alive

A Texas man has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly setting his roommate on fire while he was still alive inside their Amarillo trailer. The incident occurred around 4:53 a.m. on October 27, when first responders arrived at a trailer park fire. After extinguishing the flames, firefighters found the body of 46-year-old James Sosa inside the RV.

An autopsy revealed soot in Sosa’s trachea and lungs, indicating he was alive during the fire. Witnesses told police they saw someone leaving the trailer moments before smoke appeared.

Authorities later questioned Sosa’s roommate, 46-year-old Luis Angel Rico, who returned to the scene. Though he denied involvement, officers noted he smelled of gasoline and had soot on his hands. According to the fire marshal’s investigation, an accelerant was found on Rico’s clothing and shoes.

Rico was initially arrested for drug possession after officers found fentanyl tablets on him. He has since been charged with murder and remains held without bond in the Potter County Jail.
