A 21-year-old Texas man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting his pregnant girlfriend after she told him he might not be the baby’s father.
Authorities identified the suspect as Dominick Rangel of Waco. According to KWTX, police arrested Rangel on Wednesday and charged him with assault of a pregnant woman. He was released later after posting a $5,000 bond.
The incident reportedly took place Tuesday afternoon when Rangel’s girlfriend called the police following a heated argument about the baby’s paternity.
An arrest affidavit revealed that the couple was lying in bed when Rangel asked what her family would do if she had a child with another man. When the woman laughed and said her family would support her, Rangel allegedly became furious.
The victim, who had recently learned she was pregnant, told officers that Rangel punched her multiple times in the back. She also claimed he asked if she planned to get an abortion and that she believed the assault was meant to cause a miscarriage. Rangel allegedly began breaking items around their apartment during the outburst.
According to the affidavit, the couple had been together for five years and share an older son. Police later arrested Rangel at the apartment without incident.
