A Georgia community is mourning the tragic loss of 15-year-old MiKah King, a high school athlete who collapsed during football practice on July 22 and later died from a medical emergency. His twin brother is currently hospitalized with complications related to sickle cell anemia.
MiKah, a student-athlete at Arabia Mountain High School, was remembered by family and friends as a vibrant, compassionate, and natural leader. “MiKah was more than just a talented athlete. He was a spark — full of energy, compassion, and joy,” his family shared in a message posted on a GoFundMe page set up to assist with funeral expenses.
His sudden passing has sent shockwaves through the school and local community. “To his coaches, he was a natural leader. To his friends, he was family. And to his loved ones, he was a light that made every day brighter,” the statement read.
School principal Tanya J. Mason issued a heartfelt letter to families, urging the public to avoid speculation regarding the cause of death and to focus on healing. “Grief counselors will continue to be available in the coming days for any student or staff member who may need support,” she wrote.
The DeKalb County School District has not released details on what triggered the medical emergency and has not confirmed whether MiKah had any prior health conditions. Reports indicate that he played as a defensive tackle and offensive guard at Southwest DeKalb High School, and had recently transferred to Arabia Mountain High.
Friends like Jordan Hollie, MiKah’s teammate, described him as someone who brought humor and energy to every practice. “He loved football as much as I did. He was my practice partner. He would push me to be better,” Hollie told WANF-TV.
As the King family grapples with the heartbreaking loss, the GoFundMe campaign is helping to cover funeral and memorial costs. “No family is ever prepared for such a loss — emotionally or financially,” the family said. “Let’s come together to remember him, celebrate him, and ensure his spirit lives on.”
