A teenage suspect has been arrested in connection with a violent carjacking on Rhode Island Avenue, announced the Metropolitan Police Department. The incident, which took place in broad daylight, left a victim critically injured after being dragged several blocks by the stolen vehicle.
The carjacking occurred early on June 7th, when the victim came to a stop in the 1100 block of Rhode Island Avenue Northwest; the suspect then took advantage of the situation, jumping into the driver’s seat and attempting to flee; in a terrifying turn of events, the vehicle’s rightful owner made a desperate attempt to reclaim control but was dragged down the street, according to an MPD report.
Following an extensive investigation, police arrested a 16-year-old female from Silver Spring, Maryland, on Thursday, November 6th. According to the Metropolitan Police Department’s official announcement, the suspect faces various accusations, including carjacking, reckless driving, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, and abandoning the scene after colliding.
The legal proceedings against the adolescent, whose identity has been suppressed due to her minor status, will take place under the authority of the DC Superior Court, following the Custody Order that preceded her arrest.
