Suspect Detained In Shooting That Left 15-year-old Dead And 12-year-old Wounded

A suspect has been apprehended and charged with murder in the shooting of a 15-year-old boy in Chicago’s Canaryville neighborhood last week.

According to police, the 15-year-old and 12-year-old were in a physical altercation in a vacant lot in the 600 block of West 47th Street Thursday afternoon when someone brought out a weapon and started a fire.

The older child was shot in the hip and sent to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to authorities.

The 12-year-old was shot in the chest and was admitted to the hospital in critical condition.

On Friday morning, Chicago police arrested 19-year-old Daniel Maiver at his house in the 7400 block of South Harvard.

He is charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder and will appear in court this weekend.

No other information about the shooting was made public.
