Suspect Caught in the Act Stealing RV in Multi-County Auto Theft Case

A multi-county auto theft investigation led by the Gulf Coast Auto Crimes Task Force (ACTF) resulted in the arrest of 31-year-old Derrick Patterson on August 1, 2025, in Harris County, Texas.

Patterson was caught red-handed stealing a 2022 Astoria Recreation Vehicle (RV) in the 10000 block of Red Orchid Drive in Houston. Officers also recovered a stolen Can-Am side-by-side and a utility trailer at the scene.

He now faces a charge of Theft of Property valued between $30,000 and $150,000. Patterson was booked into the Harris County Jail and is currently awaiting a bond hearing.

The ACTF, a collaborative unit comprising law enforcement from Galveston and Brazoria counties, operates with funding from the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority (MVCPA). The task force focuses on investigating and deterring auto theft while providing regional support through coordinated enforcement and data sharing.
