Southern California rideshare driver accused of raping unconscious woman

A rideshare driver in Ventura County has been accused of raping a customer, and investigators believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.

In a news release, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said detectives opened an investigation into 35-year-old Simranjit Singh Sekhon, a Bakersfield resident, following allegations of sexual assault.

According to investigators, Sekhon picked up a 21-year-old woman in Thousand Oaks and drove her to Camarillo.

“The female was intoxicated and unable to care for herself,” the release stated. “After the completion of the ride, Sekhon drove the unconscious victim around Camarillo and sexually assaulted her.”

Authorities did not specify which rideshare company Sekhon was working for at the time of the alleged assault.

Sekhon was located and arrested on Dec. 15. He was booked into the pre-trial detention facility on a charge of rape of an unconscious victim. Bail was set at $500,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 17.

“The investigation is ongoing, and investigators believe there may be additional victims,” officials said.
