A Myrtle Beach dental office employee is facing felony charges after investigators say she embezzled more than $600,000 from her workplace in just over seven months.
Ashanti Kinney was arrested on Nov. 18 and charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent after police launched an investigation at Affordable Dentures & Implants on 38th Avenue North.
According to the police report, the case began on Aug. 20 when the regional manager contacted authorities about suspected internal theft. Kinney, who was responsible for collecting patient payments and making bank deposits, allegedly manipulated the system by marking accounts as “paid” but pocketing the cash instead of depositing it.
A review of bank records, scheduling documents, and internal audits reportedly showed that Kinney stole $612,990.20 between Jan. 1 and Aug. 15, according to Fox 10.
Police booked Kinney into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. She was released after posting a $20,000 bond.
