Police confirmed that June Bunyan, a 37-year-old Scottish woman who moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a defense attorney, was found dead in her Hollywood home on September 11.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide, citing severe traumatic neck injuries.
Bunyan, also known as June Renteria, leaves behind grieving family members who are raising funds to bring her remains back to the United Kingdom. Their GoFundMe campaign, reported by KTLA, has already collected over £10,000.
Authorities arrested her husband, Jonathan Renteria, 25, who remains in custody at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility on $4 million bail. He faces charges of murder, mutilation, and sexual contact with human remains, KTLA reported.
Investigators captured Renteria in Ventura County after an attempted suicide. He allegedly left behind a note admitting to the killing, which led police to Bunyan’s dismembered remains, according to ABC7.
Court documents revealed disturbing details: Renteria had argued with Bunyan over her post-pregnancy weight and reacted violently when she considered leaving him. Despite these findings, he entered a not-guilty plea and awaits a preliminary hearing in November.
This tragic case highlights the growing crisis of domestic violence nationwide, an issue underscored by resources like the National Domestic Violence Hotline (800-799-SAFE).
