Sacramento man uses Snapchat to sexually exploit child in North Carolina, deputies say

Sacramento – A Sacramento man has been extradited to North Carolina for allegedly using Snapchat to sexually exploit a child.

On May 28, the Craven County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina received a report of a 10-year-old child being exploited on Snapchat. Investigators identified Lorenzo Diaz Jr., 21, of Sacramento, as the suspect, and deputies obtained warrants for his arrest.

Nearly two months later, on July 14, U.S. Marshals arrested Diaz in California and executed a search warrant at his home. He was extradited to North Carolina on Aug. 5.

According to CCSO, Diaz faces felony charges that include sexual exploitation of a minor, indecent liberties with a minor, and other related offenses. He is being held at the Craven County Confinement Facility on a $1 million bond.

The Sheriff’s Office urged parents to maintain open conversations with their children about the risks of social media platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and gaming apps. They also advised parents to monitor their children’s online activities, keep access to their accounts, and know their passwords to check in regularly.

“There is no such thing as privacy when it comes to the safety and well-being of your children,” CCSO said.
