Sacramento Jail Inmate Death Tied To Fentanyl And Meth Poisoning

A man found unresponsive in his Sacramento County Main Jail cell earlier this year died of fentanyl and meth poisoning, according to investigators.

Mark Thomas Hagemeier, 55, died on June 15 from fentanyl and methamphetamine consumption, and the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office ruled his death an accident.

Around 5 p.m., deputies discovered him motionless in a cell on the jail’s medical floor, according to an X post from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

“He appeared to have had a medical emergency, and deputies attempted life-saving first aid with the assistance of nursing staff,” the post read.

The Sacramento Fire Department responded, and Hagemeier was subsequently pronounced deceased, according to deputies.

A lawsuit filed in Sacramento County Superior Court alleges that Hagemeier was charged with two crimes.

On or around June 12, he reportedly possessed fentanyl and a mechanism for taking a controlled substance, according to the complaint.

According to court documents, he was set for arraignment on June 16.
