Raleigh murder suspect detained in NYC back in Wake County, jail records show

A man suspected of murder in Raleigh who was detained in New York City earlier this month has returned to Wake County.

According to Wake County Detention Center records, Justin Malik York, 30, was returned to detention on Tuesday. On August 13, the Raleigh Police Department confirmed York’s arrest in New York City and stated that he was awaiting extradition to North Carolina.

York is suspected of the deadly shooting that occurred on June 19 in the 4500 block of Colscott Place in southeast Raleigh. Rakel Olajuwan Kirtz, 26, was fatally shot, according to the police department.

According to the arrest warrants, York is from Aberdeen in Moore County. He is charged with murder and felony possession of a handgun.

Court records reveal York’s first court appearance is set for Wednesday afternoon in Wake County.
