Polk County Man Detained After Taking A Shower To Delay Deputies

What is it worth to have a few extra minutes of freedom? One Lake Wales guy claims he has a clean bill of health. On Saturday, August 30th, Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) deputies came to a home on Alturas-Babson Park Cutoff Road to serve an arrest warrant on Lorne Travis Manley, 46.

Deputies were there to arrest Manley for violating his pre-trial release, which stemmed from previous convictions of possession of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Deputies arrived to find Manley’s vehicle running, the driver’s side door open, and his wallet on the seat, but he was nowhere to be seen. For approximately ten minutes, deputies repeatedly ordered Manley to leave the house. He eventually emerged, newly showered, and was put into custody without further incident.

According to PCSO, Manley informed deputies he knew he was headed to jail and felt there was no way out, so he opted to take a shower first.

However, the delay was not without cost. While Manley was arrested on his original warrant, the shower-related holdup resulted in an extra charge of resistance without violence.
