Police: Suspect Caught Minutes After Fatal Labor Day Weekend Shooting In Yonkers

The incident happened in Yonkers at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31, when officers were dispatched to 27 Ludlow St., where they discovered 42-year-old Felix Santiago of Yonkers with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to the city’s police department on Monday, Sept. 1.

Santiago was brought to a local hospital but died, according to authorities.

Investigators discovered that the shooting was the result of an argument between the perpetrator and the victim’s family member. The suspect allegedly fired three shots at Santiago on the street, wounding him once in the abdomen, according to the department.

Detectives quickly began their investigation at the scene, while the department trailed the suspect using city surveillance cameras. Within 15 minutes following the incident, detectives apprehended the alleged gunman, Linzell Staggers, 26, of Yonkers.

According to investigators, he was found carrying a 9mm handgun and an extended 30-round magazine.

Staggers has now been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies.

The District Attorney’s Office of Westchester County is prosecuting the case.
