According to Houston Police Lieutenant Larry Crowson, officers were serving a search warrant at an unlicensed funeral home in the Third Ward area while a funeral was in progress.
While a funeral was being held at A Community Funeral Home on the 2500 block of Wheeler Street, Houston Police Department officers executed a search warrant.
According to Crowson, another funeral home was called in to complete the services for the deceased’s relatives.
Officers were searching for financial records after receiving several calls from folks whose loved ones had used the funeral home’s services.
According to Crowson, the deceased’s identities were taken, and they assume it occurred at the funeral home.
“Apparently, the funeral home was using whatever information they had when the contract was executed for the funeral services and that’s what is going on right now,” he informed us.
Crowson stated that the funeral facility is not licensed, which they claim is a crime.
He claimed that there are no bodies inside the funeral facility, but there are several crates of cremains.
According to ABC13, the funeral home’s director has been detained, but it is unclear whether or not the owner will be charged.
According to Harris County court documents, the funeral home director was arrested earlier this month on forgery charges.
