A Miami man is facing charges in connection with an alleged drunken machete attack at a birthday party last weekend, which left another man hospitalized.
Edwin Acosta Cabrera, 32, was arrested Saturday on counts of aggravated violence with serious bodily harm, inappropriate exhibition of a firearm, and disorderly drunkenness, according to documents.
According to the arrest report, the victim was celebrating his mother’s birthday at his home in the 8000 block of Northwest Miami Court when Acosta Cabrera, whom he described as severely intoxicated and falling over, approached the party.
The partygoers begged Acosta Cabrera to go home since he was so intoxicated, but he pulled out a machete and hit the victim in the face and head, causing a significant cut to his face and ear, according to the report.
Acosta Cabrera attempted to run, but other partygoers physically detained him and took the machete, according to the complaint.
Officers responded and found the machete on the spot.
Acosta Cabrera was also hurt and hospitalized, and he told detectives that he couldn’t remember what happened, according to the report.
He was eventually released from the hospital and booked into jail.
