PHOENIX, ARIZONA — Phoenix police are asking the public for help locating a suspect in a violent sexual assault.
The assault occurred near 44th and Oak streets, just north of McDowell Road, in the early hours of August 14.
At a news conference on September 5, Phoenix police officials said that just after 4 a.m., someone heard yelling from a nearby alley and called authorities.
When officers arrived, they discovered a trail of blood and followed it until they found a woman lying unconscious.
She was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. Authorities say she has since been released but continues to recover from her injuries.
As detectives canvassed the area, they found several items of interest but have not yet identified a suspect.
Investigators are unsure whether a weapon was used during the attack.
