Northern and central Pennsylvania will wake up to a chilly start Monday, as the National Weather Service has issued frost advisories in more than a dozen counties. Overnight lows are forecast to drop into the low to mid-30s, with frost starting around 2 a.m. and lingering until approximately 8 a.m.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, temperatures in Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, McKean, Potter, and Somerset counties may drop to around 32 degrees. Further south, counties such as Cambria, Centre, Clinton, Sullivan, and Tioga will have widespread frost, particularly in valleys and sheltered terrain.
Sensitive plants, gardens, and late-season harvests are especially vulnerable. Residents are encouraged to cover sensitive plants, bring potted flowers indoors, or use protective cloths to avoid damage. Agricultural areas in northern Pennsylvania, particularly Bradford, DuBois, Coudersport, and Mansfield, should take action immediately before the cold sets in.
This unusually cold air brings an early taste of autumn. Frost advisories are in effect until daybreak Monday, with additional updates expected if cold weather persists throughout midweek.
