The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) and the United States Marshals Service are actively looking for Michael Edward Akerly, who is still one of the PSP’s top ten most wanted fugitives. Authorities are offering a total prize of $10,000. The reward is $5,000 from PSP and another $5,000 from the US Marshals for any information leading to his capture.
Akerly is wanted on a federal arrest warrant issued by the U.S. Marshals Erie Field Office for unauthorized flight to avoid prosecution. On November 4, 1999, a US magistrate judge signed the warrant. In addition, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office is looking for Akerly on sexual assault accusations.
On February 4, 1998, Akerly allegedly met a female victim in a tavern in Erie, Pennsylvania. He invited her to his home, which was then an old warehouse on Plum Street in Erie City, where he viciously abused her, beating her in the head, face, and body. Akerly was arrested and charged, but she did not appear in court and has remained a fugitive since.
The suspect’s last known address is in Erie County, Pennsylvania, but he is known to frequent Wattsburg in Erie County, Chautauqua, New York, where he may be hiding in an Amish settlement, and North Carolina.
Akerly is known for visiting music stores and recording studios. He has used the alias “Pip.”
Anyone with information on Akerly’s location is asked to call PSP Tips at 1-800-4PA-TIPS (1-800-472-8477) or leave a tip online.
