If you filed a claim in Facebook’s $725 million privacy settlement, you could see your payment within weeks, according to the settlement administrator.
The settlement resolved multiple lawsuits from users who alleged Facebook improperly shared their personal data with advertisers and data brokers over a 15-year period. The case stemmed from the 2018 Cambridge Analytica scandal, when the political consulting firm scraped user data to profile voters. Parent company Meta denied any wrongdoing but agreed to settle.
How to Know if You’re Getting Paid
Approved claimants will receive an email from “Facebook User Privacy Settlement Administrator” (donotreply@facebookuserprivacysettlement.com).
The subject line reads: Facebook User Privacy Settlement – Settlement and Distribution Status Update. The email confirms that your claim was approved and includes a unique claim ID number.
When Payments Are Going Out
The administrator began sending payments in September 2025 and will continue distributing them for the next 10 weeks. Claimants will get another email 3–4 days before their payment is issued, so officials urge recipients to keep checking their inbox.
How Much Will You Receive?
The settlement website does not specify exact amounts per claimant. Payouts depend on:
-
The number of people who filed claims.
-
The length of time each claimant maintained an active Facebook account between May 24, 2007, and December 22, 2022.
Each claimant earns one allocation point per active month. The administrator totals all points from all claimants, subtracts administrative and legal fees, then divides the net settlement amount by that number.
That means longtime Facebook users will likely receive more than people who joined later or used the platform for fewer years.
