A hay truck fire shut down part of the 405 Freeway in Sherman Oaks on Monday afternoon, backing up traffic for miles.
The fire broke out around 3:50 p.m. in the northbound lanes, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Fire crews arrived to find the flatbed truck fully engulfed in flames and producing heavy smoke.
As firefighters worked to knock down the blaze, the California Highway Patrol closed the connector to the northbound 101 Freeway at Ventura Boulevard.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and authorities have not said whether the driver was injured.
SkyCal captured aerial images showing the burned truck covered in water and foam, with the cab severely damaged. Traffic stretched for miles behind the scene.
CHP lifted the SigAlert just before 9:30 p.m. after crews cleared the wreckage and reopened all lanes.
