An Orlando man was sentenced to federal prison for lying to the FBI about an international terrorism investigation.
U.S. District Judge Carlos E. Mendoza sentenced Islam Doci, 47, of Orlando, to six years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) during an interview about the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), a designated foreign terrorist organization.
According to Doci’s plea bargain and evidence given at sentencing, he promoted ISIS propaganda online, spoke with ISIS members, sent money overseas to support ISIS, and enabled the transfer of money to ISIS by others.
In addition to other pro-ISIS posts, Doci liked one that read, “If Islam involves terrorism, then O God, give me more of it until the day I die. If Islam is extremism, then God, give me more of it until my death.” Doci applauded the killing of Americans in online discussions with his ISIS colleagues, comparing sending money and other support to being at war.
Doci lied about his affiliation with and support for ISIS during two FBI interviews regarding these actions.
