One Person Wounded After High-speed Pursuit Ends In Collision In Indiana

A high-speed pursuit in Whitley and Huntington counties left one individual critically injured early Sunday, August 31, according to Indiana State Police.

The incident started when a white Mercedes, which was suspected of escaping an attempted break-in in Columbia City, escaped a traffic stop.

Troopers observed the car driving south on State Road 9 in Whitley County. When an Indiana State Police officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped away, sparking a police pursuit.

The pursuit proceeded into County Road 200 East, which eventually became Meridian Road in Huntington County. Police said the vehicle’s lights were switched off before colliding with a power pole. The driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, was taken to a local hospital in severe condition. No additional vehicles were involved.
