Ohio Man Pleads Guilty After Bragging About Bar Shooting

An Ohio man who was overheard laughing and boasting about shooting a romantic rival inside a bar has admitted to the crime.

Jacob Brady, 28, pleaded guilty Monday to felonious assault and tampering with evidence. Prosecutors dropped two firearms-related charges as part of the plea deal.

The charges stem from a June 22 shooting at Pat’s Bar in Dayton. Investigators said Brady opened fire on a 23-year-old man in the early morning hours.

The victim, who survived after taking a ride-share to the hospital, was with a woman Brady had been interested in.

Although Brady claimed he acted in self-defense, surveillance video and witness accounts told a different story, showing the woman wanted nothing to do with him and that the victim never threatened him.

After his arrest, fellow inmates at the Montgomery County Jail reported hearing Brady brag about the shooting. WHIO reported he was heard saying, “I’m gonna put that on a T-shirt — ‘BLAM, that boy down.’”

Brady is set for sentencing on Dec. 8.
