An Ohio mother’s trust in a “lifetime friend” turned into a nightmare earlier this month, leaving her one-year-old daughter fighting for her life and the babysitter facing felony charges for allegedly trying to wash away evidence of a violent assault.
Authorities have held 37-year-old Amanda L. Greger on a half-million-dollar bond. She faces two counts of child endangerment and one count of tampering with evidence.
The case began unfolding on November 10, when staff at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital alerted Goshen Township Police to possible severe child abuse. Doctors reported the toddler arrived with an “altered mental status” and a shocking list of injuries, including a brain bleed and blood “seeping” from her right eye.

Court records indicate the alleged assault happened overnight at a home on Woodville Pike while the child’s mother, identified as Melissa Bilby, was at work.
When Bilby returned home the morning of November 10, everything seemed normal. She found her daughter sleeping, but when she tried to wake her, she realized something was terribly wrong. She told investigators the child appeared “lethargic” and “unable to wake.” She soon noticed abrasions on the infant’s lip.
In the same room, Greger was asleep, reportedly wearing a hooded sweatshirt covered in what looked like blood and vomit.
Detectives executed a search warrant shortly afterward. According to the affidavit, investigators found bloodstains throughout the room. Inside the washing machine, they discovered the clothing the infant was wearing before Bilby left for work. Police say someone had run the clothes through a wash cycle, yet they still had visible stains.

The child’s aunt, Lindsay Bilby, started a GoFundMe campaign to support the family and expressed heartbreak over the betrayal. She described Greger as a longtime trusted friend who had always been relied on to care for the children.
The campaign paints a grim medical picture. The one-year-old is reportedly intubated and on a ventilator in the pediatric intensive care unit. In addition to the brain bleed, she is suffering from bruised lungs and fluid collecting around her heart and spine. Doctors have kept her heavily sedated to support her recovery.
During a hearing on Thursday, a judge set Greger’s bail at $500,000 cash. If she posts bond, she cannot contact the victim or any other children. Her next court date is scheduled for December 1.
