Ocala Teen Sentenced To 3 Years In Prison For Machinegun Possession

Sean Rayvon Hubbard, Jr., 19, of Ocala, was sentenced to three years in federal prison by United States District Judge Thomas P. Barber for possessing a machine gun. Hubbard pleaded guilty to the allegation on May 22, 2025.

The case stems from an incident on July 28, 2024, when Ocala Police Department (OPD) officers sought to arrest Hubbard for outstanding warrants. According to court documents, Hubbard escaped from the officers on foot before being arrested.

On August 7, 2024, OPD police got a call from an apartment complex, which marked a critical turning point in the case. A firearm was discovered along the path where Hubbard had fled from police.

The weapon, described as a black handgun with a tan extended ammunition magazine, was discovered to have been illegally modified with a “switch.” This modification transformed the pistol into a machine gun that could fire many rounds of ammo with a single pull of the trigger.

Investigators then acquired a search order for Hubbard’s cellphone. They discovered a video of Hubbard handling the same modified handgun shortly prior to his arrest on July 28, 2024, which directly linked him to the illegal weapon.

The Ocala Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) worked together on the investigation. Sarah Janette Swartzberg, an Assistant United States Attorney, prosecuted the case.
