A 38-year-old North Carolina man, Wellington Delano Dickens III, was arrested Monday night after allegedly admitting to killing four of his children and placing their bodies in the trunk of a car at his home.
According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Dickens called 911 around 10 p.m. on Monday, October 27, and told dispatchers he had “killed his children.” Deputies arrived at his Zebulon residence and found his 3-year-old son alive inside the house. During a further search, they discovered what appeared to be several bodies in the trunk of a vehicle parked in the garage.
Investigators believe the deceased victims are Dickens’ three biological children, ages 6, 9, and 10, along with his 18-year-old stepchild.
Authorities stated that the remains seemed to have been in the vehicle “for a long period of time.” The medical examiner’s office will determine the official cause of death and confirm the victims’ identities.
Dickens faces one count of murder and is being held without bond. Officials expect additional charges as the investigation continues.
No motive has been revealed for the tragic killings.
