A federal judge in El Paso sentenced 43-year-old Edgar Omar Martinez of Anthony, New Mexico, to 262 months (more than 21 years) in prison for trafficking around 1.5 kilograms of fentanyl.
Martinez was detained on March 14, 2025, after FBI officials found around 17,000 fentanyl pills in his truck. According to court records, he got the pills from a co-conspirator two weeks previously and expected $3,200 for his involvement in the scheme.
On April 9, he was charged with one count of possessing 400 grams or more of fentanyl with the intent to distribute, as well as one count of conspiracy to possess the same quantity. Martinez pleaded guilty on both counts on August 26, 2025.
Assistant United States Attorneys Kyle Myers and Michael Williams prosecuted the case for the Western District of Texas, reporting to U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons. The case was ruled over by Judge Leon Schydlower, and the FBI was investigating it.
