A man was detained in Virginia in connection to the deadly shooting of a person that happened in South Jersey back in June, according to a spokesperson with the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Earl and Clarkson streets in Burlington City’s New Yorkshire neighborhood shortly after 5:30 a.m. on June 8.
When cops arrived at the site, they discovered Derrick Adams, 38, lying on the ground with many gunshot wounds, according to reports. Officers pronounced Adams deceased at the scene.
During the inquiry, authorities identified James McDowell Jr., 33, as the alleged shooter.
According to authorities, McDowell was detained in Roanoke, Virginia, and is facing charges of murder, unauthorized possession of a weapon, and other connected charges.
He is currently being held at the Roanoke City Adult Detention Center, awaiting extradition to New Jersey before a grand jury hears the matter.
