A well-known music producer was discovered deceased in New York City on Tuesday, according to officials.
Sidney “Omen” Brown, 49, was found by family members in his East Harlem apartment. They went to check on him after he skipped an appearance as a DJ at Barawine, a Harlem bar and restaurant.
“He was holistic and healthy,” his sister, Nicole Iris Brown, explained. “So we don’t know of him being sick, so this is all pretty sudden.”
Sidney “Omen” Brown rose to prominence through collaborations with Jay Z, Ludacris, Drake, and Beyoncé. He was recognized as a producer for Ludacris’ hit single “Tell It Like It Is.” Brown also produced the track “Shut It Down,” which appears on Drake’s debut album, “Thank Me Later.”
In a social media message, Barawine Harlem expressed “deep sadness” over Brown’s death.
“It is with shock and deep sadness we have heard about the passing of our dear friend Omen Sidney Brown,” Barawine Harlem wrote. “Omen was part of Barawine’s team for over a decade bringing his unique talent to all. There are not enough words to express our feelings.. Our thoughts and prayers go to his family, his friends and all who love him. We will never forget you Omen. Rest in peace.”
The cause and manner of death are being investigated further, according to the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
