A motorcyclist suspected of fatally shooting a San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy was arrested Monday afternoon after crashing into a car during a high-speed pursuit on the 210 Freeway near Ontario.
Authorities say the suspect was wanted in connection with a domestic violence incident in Rancho Cucamonga. When deputies responded around 1:30 p.m., the suspect allegedly opened fire, killing Deputy Andrew Nuñez at the scene.
After the shooting, the suspect fled on a motorcycle, reaching triple-digit speeds and driving the wrong way into oncoming traffic multiple times along the 210 Freeway.
About five minutes into the chase, the suspect collided with another vehicle on the eastbound 210 near exit 56 in Ontario. Video from SkyFOX showed the aftermath, with the motorcyclist sitting upright in a neck brace as deputies surrounded him before placing him on a gurney and airlifting him to a hospital.
Footage also appeared to show a gun lying on the roadway near the crash site.
Before the chase, a large law enforcement presence surrounded an apartment complex on Hollycock Street in Rancho Cucamonga, where investigators found a bloody vest on the sidewalk and a sheriff’s patrol vehicle with a shattered driver’s window.
