Molalla Man Gets Nearly 10 Years In Prison After Being Convicted In 3 Separate Cases

A Molalla man faces about nine and a half years in jail for robbery, car theft, hit-and-run, and identity theft, according to the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday.

According to the district attorney’s office, 31-year-old Alex James Raphun was charged in three distinct cases in Clackamas County for crimes that occurred in the spring of 2022 and 2023.

Raphun sideswiped two parked cars in Milwaukie in June 2022, causing the first incident. One person was injured, and a witness advised Raphun to phone 911.

Raphun dismissed the call and walked away.

When police apprehended him and checked his backpack, they discovered checks written out to other persons, blank checks that had been reported stolen, and a pawn slip and debit card belonging to others.

The second set of charges was filed in March 2023, when an officer observed Raphun driving a stolen car. When the police attempted to stop him, Raphun sped away, abandoning the automobile on Interstate 205.

He was eventually apprehended on foot, and authorities discovered IDs belonging to other people in his hands.

Finally, in May 2023, Raphun was arrested and charged with robbing a Happy Valley deli. He stole $450 in cash and threatened the deli worker with a toy gun. Raphun also grabbed a woman’s pocketbook before speeding away on a scooter.

Raphun was convicted earlier this year of identity theft and careless driving in the March 2023 case. He received a sentence of 43 months in prison.

Raphun pled guilty to the other two crimes on Friday and was sentenced to 70 months in jail for the May 2023 case and 30 months for the June 2022 case, all of which will run consecutively.
