Pittsburgh police briefly descended on the city’s Brookline neighborhood in search of a missing boy with autism. The search began on Tuesday afternoon.
Law enforcement officials informed Channel 11 that the search was for an 8th-grade student seen on camera walking away from Pittsburgh Public Schools’ Carmalt PreK-8 at 2:10 p.m.
According to a PPS representative, the missing student is a Bridges Academy student who was allocated to a satellite program in Carmalt. The student left without permission using a staff-designated door that does not have an alarm like the other exits.
Teachers began looking within the facility since they were unaware he had departed. His transportation driver later discovered him on Pioneer Avenue and drove him to his Wilkinsburg home.
According to the district spokesman, the event is being evaluated to ensure “that all safety protocols and building access procedures continue to be followed with fidelity.”
