A 40-year-old Minnesota man, David Delong, has been charged with second-degree murder after allegedly killing his co-worker, 20-year-old Amber Czech, in a horrific sledgehammer attack at their workplace in Cokato early Tuesday morning.
The Wright County Sheriff’s Office reported that the assault happened at the Advanced Process Technologies building shortly before 6 a.m.
Surveillance footage allegedly shows Delong, wearing gloves, walking to Czech’s workstation, picking up a sledgehammer, and striking her multiple times — including downward blows indicating she had fallen to the ground.
Investigators said Delong admitted to the killing, telling authorities he had “been planning to kill the victim for some time” and “admitted not liking” her.
First responders discovered Amber Czech on the floor near her workstation with severe head trauma. She died from blunt force injuries. Officers recovered a bloody sledgehammer at the scene.
Delong was taken into custody and remains in the Wright County Jail. While he currently faces a second-degree murder charge, which carries a maximum sentence of 40 years, the Wright County Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case and may convene a grand jury to pursue a first-degree murder charge. Delong is scheduled to appear in court on November 24.
