Michigan Woman Charged After 76-Year-Old Found Dead in Driveway

Motorcyclist Killed, Driver Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 101 in San Jose

A 31-year-old Michigan woman has been charged after allegedly striking and killing a 76-year-old St. Clair Shores, Michigan, woman with her car, then fleeing the scene.

According to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, Stephanie Holt was arraigned Tuesday on two felony charges — failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death and felony commission with a motor vehicle. Her bond was set at $100,000 cash/surety (10%). If released, Holt must wear a GPS tether, stay away from the scene, and have no contact with the victim’s family.

Police responded to the 21000 block of Francis Street on November 1, where they found the victim, Mary Hulswitt, lying at the end of a driveway with injuries “consistent with being struck by a vehicle.” Investigators said Holt allegedly hit Hulswitt while backing out of her driveway, then left without stopping.

“Fleeing from an accident, particularly one that results in serious injury or death, is illegal,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido. “When an accident occurs, the law requires that individuals stop and immediately contact emergency services.”

Holt was later arrested by police and taken into custody. She is scheduled to appear in court for a probable cause conference on November 14 and a preliminary examination on November 25.
