A 27-year-old homeless woman has been arrested after deputies say she attacked and robbed an elderly man in Brownsville on Wednesday.
According to an arrest report, Ruth Weaday Logan approached the 89-year-old victim near NW 47th Street and 27th Avenue as he was on his way to a nearby store. Investigators say she pushed him from his wheelchair, knocked him to the ground, demanded his belongings, and repeatedly struck him before rifling through his pockets and wheelchair to take his wallet.
Witnesses immediately called authorities and chased Logan as she fled toward a U-Gas station at 4700 NW 27th Avenue. Deputies said one witness managed to recover the victim’s wallet during the pursuit.
When deputies arrived, they allegedly found Logan seated at the gas station with baggies of narcotics on her lap and the victim’s ID card in her possession.
She was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on charges of strong-arm robbery and battery on a person 65 or older. Logan remains in custody on a $15,000 bond.
