Memphis Man Arrested in Southaven After High-Speed Chase, Faces Evading Arrest and Chop Shop Charges

A high-speed chase that began with Memphis Police ended in Southaven, leading to the arrest of a 20-year-old man tied to a chop shop operation. Kenneth Berry was taken into custody last Thursday, WREG confirmed. He now faces several charges, including felony evading arrest, reckless driving, and driving without a license.

A Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) trooper first spotted Berry in a gray Camaro speeding 25 mph over the limit and weaving through traffic, FOX13 Memphis reported. When the trooper attempted to stop him, Berry exited the highway and briefly escaped, though an air unit kept him under surveillance. The chase resumed as Berry reportedly drove into oncoming traffic and hit speeds over 100 mph along East Mallory Avenue.

Authorities later found the Camaro at a residence on Charter Oak Drive in Southaven, where Berry had attempted to hide. Guided by the air unit, Southaven Police moved in and arrested him. “We are fully prepared to protect our community from any criminal activity that attempts to spill across our county line,” said DeSoto County Sheriff Thomas E. Tuggle II, addressing the incident and the strong police response, according to FOX13 Memphis.

Berry’s legal troubles don’t end there. Action News 5 reported that he is also accused of running a chop shop in Memphis, where stolen cars were dismantled. The chase has now added theft of property and violation of the chop shop law to his list of charges. A court date has not yet been set, and details about his bond remain unknown.
