Maryland woman accused of ramming Virginia State Police car, leading chase

A Howard County woman is facing multiple charges after authorities say she rammed a Virginia State Police patrol car and led troopers on a chase into Maryland early Monday, according to the Maryland State Police.

Police identified the suspect as 24-year-old Naturi Michon Hayes of Elkridge. Investigators said Hayes struck a Virginia State Police vehicle, forcing it into a concrete barrier, before fleeing through Prince George’s and Howard counties.

Hayes has been charged with first-degree assault, attempting to elude a uniformed police officer, failure to stop after an accident involving property damage, aggressive and reckless driving, and several other traffic-related offenses.

The chase and arrest

Maryland State Police said they were alerted around midnight on Dec. 29 that Virginia state troopers were involved in a pursuit that crossed into Maryland via the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

Authorities said Hayes later rammed a marked Virginia State Police vehicle while she was in Maryland. Troopers continued following her into Howard County, where her vehicle crashed near Washington Boulevard and Meadowridge Road.

Police said Hayes exited the vehicle after the crash and attempted to flee on foot but was quickly taken into custody.

The Virginia State Police trooper involved was treated at a hospital for minor injuries.
