Man Wanted In 2020 Kanawha County Robbery And Fleeing Case Detained In Chicago

Kanawha County sheriff’s deputies say a man who has been on the run for five years has been apprehended.

“After five years on the run, justice caught up. Timothy Lee Walding Jr. of St. Albans has been arrested in Chicago and brought back to West Virginia to face his charges in Kanawha County,” a Thursday Facebook post from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department said.

Walding, 46, is charged with first-degree robbery and escaping.

In July 2020, a robbery was reported at a hot spot on West Washington Street near Dunbar. Deputies arrived at the location and saw a man, thought to be Walding, near a car in the parking lot. He got inside the car, and the driver took off. A chase ensued, passing through Cross Lanes, Nitro, and back to Dunbar, where spike strips destroyed the automobiles’ tires. According to police, Walding then fled the vehicle.

Walding was discovered in the Sissonville neighborhood early the following morning. He escaped in a vehicle that eventually wrecked. Walding raced away from the scene. Deputies claimed he was armed.

The helicopter was employed in the first search, but Walding was not located.

Walding was extradited back to West Virginia on Thursday.

He is currently being held without bail at the South Central Regional Jail.
