Man Sentenced To 1 Year, To Pay $13000, After Hit-and-run In Front Of Granby High

A man was sentenced to one year and four months in prison on November 7 for causing a three-car accident in front of Granby High and fleeing the scene, according to the Norfolk Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.

The collision occurred on March 22, 2024, when Gilley Nash Gilreath, 33, rear-ended the car in front of him while driving north on the 7100 block of Granby Street. The car Gilreath rear-ended collided with the car in front of them, causing considerable damage to all three vehicles, according to the CA’s office.

According to the CA’s office, Gilreath collected belongings from his car and walked to his home without assisting or exchanging information with those involved. He was identified and detained after the event was filmed on Granby High School’s speed cameras.

Gilreath agreed to plead guilty on August 7, and was later sentenced to one year and four months in jail, with two years and eight months suspended if he completed three years of good behavior.

He must also pay $13,140 in reparations to the victims upon his release.

“It is a crime to leave the scene of a car crash, regardless of who is at fault, because the law requires us to stay and offer help to people who may be injured,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi. “By leaving the scene, Mr. Gilreath seriously compounded his problems and potentially endangered the health of others. I urge anyone involved in a crash to stay at the scene and cooperate with first responders. You could save a life.”
