A man was detained in Sacramento County on Saturday for allegedly attempting to set fire to a house with his elderly parents inside, according to authorities.
According to deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, authorities were dispatched to the residence late Saturday afternoon to conduct a welfare check. According to officials, they discovered that 37-year-old Smoekitt Say attempted to set a fire inside the residence after getting into an argument with his 80-year-old father.
The sheriff’s office released photos on Facebook showing what looks to be a burned section along the wall and ceiling of a room inside the home.
According to investigators, family members were able to extinguish the fire before emergency responders arrived.
Police caught the culprit nearby after he fled the scene. He was arrested, hauled into custody, and held without bail. Attorney information was not readily available.
