Man Detained After Attempting To Charge Truck Driver Three Times Original Price

A 29-year-old man is facing charges of deceptive business practices and theft of property after allegedly attempting to charge a truck driver nearly three times the original amount for repair work, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Johnny Justin Flores, 29, was arrested on Thursday, September 18, and is charged with fraudulent business practices and theft of property. His total bond is $15,000.

On September 18, deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office were summoned to the 12800 block of Bales Drive in the Sparks area for a civil dispute over semi-truck repair services.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the suspect, Flores, and the victim, a commercial truck driver passing through El Paso County.

The inquiry indicated that the victim had mechanical problems and contacted Flores for repair services worth around $1,200 after discovering his business online.

At 5:14 p.m., the victim received an invoice and was urged to pay by 5:30 p.m. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Flores refused to release the vehicle despite the victim’s timely payment, alleging it was late and wanting nearly twice the initial amount.

Detectives responded by obtaining a search warrant. The semi-truck was retrieved, and Flores was served with two arrest warrants.

Flores was put into the El Paso County Detention Facility, and the semi-truck was restored to the legal owner, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
