A 33-year-old man has been charged after allegedly fleeing police and crashing into a motorcycle, killing the rider in Muskegon on Tuesday.
Keith Lamar Williams was arraigned Wednesday on two felony counts: reckless driving causing death and first-degree fleeing police, both carrying penalties of up to 15 years in prison.
Police say Williams was fleeing from officers in an unrelated incident when he was later reported for reckless driving around 12:37 p.m. on Lakeshore Drive. Authorities say he crossed into oncoming traffic and struck 40-year-old Nathan P. Thorsen, a Muskegon resident, who died at the scene.
After the impact, Williams’ vehicle flipped and landed in a nearby bike path, catching fire, police said.
Muskegon Police Chief Tim Kozal confirmed that officers were not actively pursuing Williams at the time of the crash. Williams remains in custody at the Muskegon County Jail.
