Man Arrested in Los Angeles County for Allegedly Killing Elderly Father

Arrests Climb to 9 in Deadly Mississippi Mass Shooting

A man has been arrested in Los Angeles County for allegedly assaulting and killing his elderly father in south Bakersfield on Monday evening. Authorities said the victim was found dead outside a home.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers responded around 6:27 p.m. on October 13, 2025, to the 6100 block of Chandler Way after reports of an unresponsive man lying on the ground.

Responding medical personnel confirmed the man was deceased. Police said evidence at the scene indicated the victim had been physically assaulted.

The department’s homicide investigators took over the case and identified the suspect as the victim’s son, 49-year-old Alfred Juarez of Bakersfield. With assistance from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, officers located and arrested Juarez without incident.

He was transported to Kern County Jail, where he was booked on charges of murder, elder abuse, robbery, and other related offenses.

Police confirmed there are no additional suspects in the case.
