Man Arrested After Jumping Fence and Falling Asleep at Miami International Airport

A 34-year-old man was arrested after allegedly jumping a fence at Miami International Airport (MIA) and then falling asleep in a restricted area, authorities said.

Luis Mario Gonzlaez Madan was charged with violating a designated operational area of the airport, a felony offense, after the incident occurred early Friday.

According to the arrest report, a cleaning crew supervisor observed Gonzlaez Madan jump the fence into MIA’s air operations area, which is marked with no trespassing signs.

Miami-Dade Sheriff’s deputies responded and took Gonzlaez Madan into custody. Body-worn camera footage showed him telling a deputy that he jumped the fence because he was scared.

An attempt to read him Miranda rights was unsuccessful, as he “was asleep and refused to cooperate,” the report said, so no statements were obtained.

The sheriff’s office noted that Gonzlaez Madan’s actions disrupted operations in the MIA cargo area and required a police response. He was subsequently booked into jail.
