Devontaye Richardson, one of three men charged in connection with the fatal shooting of bystander Cameran Holt during a Baltimore shootout, was acquitted of murder and attempted murder but found guilty of reckless endangerment on Wednesday, according to the City State’s Attorney’s Office.
Holt was struck by a stray bullet on Oct. 27, 2024, while celebrating a family member’s gender reveal in the Federal Hill neighborhood. She died from her injuries two weeks later.
The first defendant to stand trial, Alexis Cancel-Soto, was convicted in September of murder, illegal gun possession and several firearm-related charges.
Prosecutors in Richardson’s trial said he became involved in an argument that escalated into gunfire when Cancel-Soto and a third man, Daeshaun Clark, opened fire on a man driving away from the scene. That man was also injured.
The shooting took place on West Hamburg Street. Investigators arrested Cancel-Soto four days later, while Richardson and Clark were taken into custody weeks later after police identified them through surveillance video and witness accounts. All three had been charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and additional offenses.
“They robbed her of many things she wanted, but you won’t rob her of her heart and soul,” said Holt’s mother, Roxanne Spath.
Clark, the final defendant awaiting trial, is scheduled to appear in court for a pre-trial hearing on Friday, Nov. 14.
