Madison Man Detained After Fleeing Traffic Stop And Drugs Found In Vehicle

A 40-year-old man was detained early Thursday for allegedly escaping a traffic check and attempting to leave on foot, according to the Madison Police Department.

Around 1:25 a.m., an MPD officer stopped a car for speeding near Delaware Blvd and Texas Trail, according to police.

Additional police and a sergeant were dispatched to the location owing to the driver’s “behavior.” Police claimed the driver rejected demands to exit the vehicle, so officers placed tire deflation devices around it to keep him from driving away.

Police say the driver attempted to flee the area but was halted when all four tires collapsed.

He then apparently fled into a nearby residential area before being apprehended less than a mile from his original stop.

During their search of the automobile, officers discovered MDMA, marijuana, and open alcohol containers.

The driver was detained on preliminary accusations of third-degree operating while intoxicated, possession of MDMA and THC, fleeing an officer, and resisting or obstructing an officer.

He was booked into Dane County Jail.
