One lucky Powerball player is nearly $2 million richer after purchasing a winning ticket at a Sacramento liquor store, though the massive jackpot remains unclaimed.
According to the California Lottery, the ticket—worth $1,975,554—was sold at Lichine’s Liquor & Deli, located at 7107 South Land Park Drive. The ticket matched five of the six winning numbers drawn Saturday night: 1, 28, 31, 57, and 58, along with a Powerball number of 16.
No ticket in California matched all six numbers, allowing the Powerball jackpot to roll over. Monday night’s drawing now stands at an estimated $1.1 billion, making it the sixth-largest Powerball jackpot in history, according to lottery officials.
As excitement builds, long lines have formed at Lichine’s Liquor & Deli, with hopeful players flocking to the store ahead of the next drawing.
“It really shows the support and the community we’re getting from the larger lottery crowd,” said Ken Cheng, an employee at the store, speaking with FOX40.
Powerball officials say the growing jackpot is fueling excitement nationwide.
“This jackpot streak is bringing people together to dream big during this festive time of year,” said Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and Iowa Lottery CEO. “Please play responsibly. Just one $2 Powerball ticket gives you a chance to win this jackpot while also supporting good causes in your community.”
